How to Get a Copy of a McKinley Court Document

You can obtain a copy of a court document in three ways: online, in person, or by mail.

Online. Through the New Mexico Courts Public Access (Odyssey) portal, you can view electronic case records and, in some cases, download documents. Note: Information from this portal is not an official court record. To obtain a certified copy, you must contact the clerk's office.

In person. Visit the McKinley County District Court clerk's office in Gallup:

McKinley County District Court
201 West Hill AvenueGallup, NM 87301Phone: (505) 863-6816

The clerk's office issues both uncertified and certified copies of documents. A certified copy has the court's seal and the clerk's signature — it is required for most legal purposes: filing in another court, immigration procedures, confirming case status.

By mail. Send a written request to the clerk's office address, specifying:

  • The full name of the party in the case
  • The case number, if known
  • The type of document needed
  • Whether a certified copy is required
  • A return address and payment

You can also request public records through the IPRA (Inspect Public Records Act) system, which allows you to officially request documents in accordance with the state's public information access law. Courts do not conduct criminal background checks for the public — for this, contact the Law Enforcement Records Bureau of the Department of Public Safety.
